PPA's Pinelands Visitor Center Holiday Hours Extended
The Pinelands Preservation Alliance's
Visitor
Center will be open for extended holiday hours through Sunday, December
21. In addition to regular Monday-Friday,
9 to 5 hours, the center will be open Sundays, from Noon to 4
in November, and both Saturdays and Sundays, from Noon to 4
in December through the weekend before Christmas. Why not stop by the
Pinelands Visitor Center at the Bishop Farmstead
to do your holiday shopping? You will find many different
Pinelands-related items that would make the perfect "green gifts" for
friends and family, including topical books and apparel.

From Legislature to Table
6:30 p.m. reception and 7:00
presentation. NJ Congressman Rush Holt
will speak on the urgency of preserving farmland in New Jersey. He will
also introduce his recently proposed
legislation fostering Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms and
farmers through grant programs. Joining the Congressman will be Jim
Weaver, Chef/Owner of Princeton’s Tre Piani Restaurant and
co-founder and head of the Central Jersey Convivium of Slow Food. Jim
will share Slow Food’s basic philosophy, “Seeking to create dramatic and
lasting change in our food system,” emphasizing the group’s global
commitment to foods that are “Good, Clean and Fair,” and ways to live
the Slow Food life in Central
Jersey. Jim Weaver’s bountiful restaurant and Slow Food events
intensively spotlight local farmers, with whom
he has strong personal relationships. The programs will be introduced by
D&R Greenway’s “3rd
generation resident farmer”, Bill Rawlyk, Director of Land
Preservation, whose Hunterdon County farm the Land Trust has

Electronics recycling event set
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holiday
Inn at 205 Wolf Road, Colonie, NY. Sponsored by
Cambridge Systematics in Albany, N.Y. The free electronics recycling
event will be
held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at 205 Wolf Road, Colonie.
A $15 fee will be charged to recycle TVs.
Electronics Recycling Inc. of Troy will collect and recycle the
equipment. Items may be dropped off in the Holiday Inn’s back parking
lot. Last year’s event collected 10.5 tons of materials, organizers

Moonlight Walk at
Historic Whitesbog Village 7 p.m. Experience a
different side to New Jersey’s
nightlife
on this refreshing 3-5 mile walk around Whitesbog with the help of an
experienced guide. During the jaunt, the walk leaders will share their
knowledge about South Jersey and Whitesbog history, folklore and nature.
Attendees will experience the peace and quiet of a fall night in the
Pines as nature prepares to sleep through the coming winter. Hikers will
also enjoy the beauty of the moon reflected off the reservoirs and ponds
along the path. Meet at the General Store
at 7 PM. Guests should be prepared for a
relatively vigorous walk, are encouraged to dress for the weather and
bring everything that may be needed for cool fall hike:
jackets/sweatshirts, water and flashlights. Light refreshments will be
served. Inclement weather cancels. Fee is $5 per person.

Hike the Newly Opened
Trail-Bordentown & Duck Island 10 a.m. Join the naturalist and
historian of Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park in a walk along the
newly opened trail in the
area previously referred to as "the abandoned section of the canal".
This 3-mile stretch is the previously inaccessible section running
from Lock 1 along the Crosswicks Creek in Bordentown, NJ northward on
Duck Island past Lock 2 (now buried) and ending at Lamberton Road in
Trenton. The program will start at 10 am. Participants will meet at
scenic overlook on Route 295 North. All ages
are welcome. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED, call (609) 924-5705. Weather
permitting. The program
is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Marsh, Washington Crossing
Audubon, D&R Canal Watch
and the D&R Greenway Land Trust.

construction of some simple birdfeeders
using mostly recycled materials (provided) and explain the Cornell Lab
